Hegins Township Burning Ordinance states that burning must be confined to a non-combustible container, covered with a screen no larger than one inch mesh. No fires shall be maintained except between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:00 pm. This means that a person should not start the burning before 7:00 am and needs to make sure that the fire is out and no longer burning or smoldering by 6:00 pm. Saturday burning is limited 7:00 am until 12:00 noon. There is no allowed burning on Sundays, Christmas, New Years Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Forth of July, Labor Day or Thanksgiving. This allows all residents to hold picnics and gatherings undisturbed. You may request permission for burning of brush, weeds, or other natural material from your local Fire Chief, Captain of the Fire Police or Chief of Police, specifying the time of the intended burning and location.
In time of drought of like emergencies the Fire Marshall in conjunction with the Supervisors may ban burning entirely with the Township. The initiation and conclusion of such ban shall be promptly advertised in the local papers.
